Record Labels are companies, large or small , that manufacture, distribute and promote recordings of affiliated musicians. The purpose of a record label is to sell the brand of the artists involved while promoting the products the record creates.

In modern day Nigeria, one of the greatest and influencing record label is none other than the infamous Mavin Records.

Mavin Records, as it stands, a unique record label serving as an academy for most Nigerian musical starlets and noted as a household for other renowned musical figures where these figures passed through and have a terminated contract with the aforementioned record label.

The Genesis and Birth of Mavin Records.

Prior to the introduction of Mavin Records, by its founder and owner, Don Jazzy, an academy for grooming talented young music lovers, there existed a deemed record label Mo’hits Records, previously owned by Don Jazzy and D’banj. Mo’hits Records or better Mo’hits was a Nigerian based record label owned by D’banj and Don Jazzy. Accord to Nigeria’s Corporate Affairs Commission, Mo’hits Records was a limited liability company founded and owned by Don Jazzy in the year 2012. The label produced artists like D’banj who later became co-owner of Mo’hits Records as a result of having a share in it as a limited liability company. Mo’hits specialised in the genres of music known as Afrobeats. The label signed other artists like Dr SID, Wande Coal, D’Prince and K-Switch. Mo’hits Records was closed down or better banned, following peculiar issues surrounding it such as the difference in interest which led to the dissolution of the company. They both parted ways and formed their very own record labels.This led to the exposure as well as the blooming of a new record label which has served and is still serving as the power House of the Nigerian music industry.

Mavin Records

Mavin Records, is a private (incorporated as a general partnership) business company in the entertaining side of life, talk of music, a soul triggering necessity of life. Mavin Records was founded by Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy in the year 2012, on 8, May sited at Victoria Island in Nigeria. Mavin Records seeks to produce musician conglomerate with a clothing line, Mavin Clothing line where individuals or even the artistes themselves are groomed or adorned with quite attractive clothing styles and others to make them appealing.

Mavin Records used to house Tiwa Savage,Reekado Banks, Koredo Bello, Iyanya, Di’ja, DR SID. These have exited Mavin Records, after the termination of the contract or deal bonding them.

Rema, Ayra Starr , Crayon, Magixx, Boy Spyce, Johnny Drille, Lapidoe, Bayanni and Lifesize Teddy. These artists are not only sending their music to the world but also broadcasting the record labels handling them and promoting indigenous Nigerian music as well as African music.

Billboard reports that Mavins evaluation in proposed deal is above 150 million dollars to 200 million dollars.

During City Entertainment Awards,

• Mavin Records was nominated for the best record label of the year but lost it to another record label.
• The following year, Mavin Records took home the award for the Best Record Label of the Year , that is , in 2014, which it previously did not achieve.
• Marvin Records is still considered a goal getter as numerous well known artists have made it by collaborating with this very record label. Talk of Rema, Ayra Starr, among others.
